ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST $20.00 per hour 6 Month Temporary Assignment

Purpose:

Under general supervision, performs accounting support duties in accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, payroll and related functions.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Positions in this classification typically perform a full range of duties in their assigned functional area(s) at a level of complexity represented by the following types of responsibilities:

Performs a variety of accounting support duties including accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing and payroll support.

Performs accounts payable functions: Receives and prepares invoices for payment; reviews for accuracy and proper authorizations; enters for payment and assembles for audit; records information into control ledger and generates reports and accounts payable checks; reconciles reports to ledger; prepares documents for review, signature and approval; reconciles various accounts; prepares invoices requiring special handling; prepares travel advances, allowances and expenses.

Performs purchasing support functions: Assists the Buyer in making routine purchases; receives and prepares purchasing requisitions; contacts vendors and receives quotes; maintains supply room inventory; establishes vendor account files; enters data and generates reports.

Inputs financial and statistical information into computer; sorts data and generates lists, reports and related financial documents; compares and verifies accounting codes, numbers and prices; identifies and corrects discrepancies in assigned accounts; ensures compliance with agency financial policies and procedures.

Responds to inquiries and resolves problems from other employees, vendors and the public; explains established procedures and polices; researches and resolves problems or discrepancies; ensures necessary and timely follow-up.
